HSMP-reference letter

Hi guys,
going to apply for HSMP but have lots of queries and confusions. I am finding it difficult to get the reference letter from my present employer. Hope its understandable.
Can anyone suggest me what to do? Other question is if the home office contact the employer to check validity of all the reference letters.

Please help
