ILR as a partner - waiting times

Post by patience7 » Wed Aug 05, 2009 11:27 pm

Hi

As a new member excuse if this has been posted already, but could anyone please tell me how long it has taken them or their parner to receive indefinate leave to remain as a partner of a uk citizen?

I am aware the Home Office waiting times are 6 months but my partner's application was submitted just coming upto 2 and a half years ago and we still have not been given a decision despite writing to them and asking for a time (which they basically gave the "back log of applications response"). I am a uk citizen and my husband is a non-eu/non eea national if that helps.

Basically if people could provide their own experiences in waiting times and any advice on how I could speed up their response.

Thanks

I assume this wasn't a straightforward application as processing time for spouse ILR is around 8-12 weeks at present. Have you tried asking for your MP's help?

Well they claim the application is valid and when I had a look at the file from which we got a copy from the home office-they are still doing their neccessary checks, however as I said before when I wrote and asked about the time they said they have a lot of applications which have a long waiting list.

My solicitor a few months ago suggested writing to our local MP and getting them to write a letter on our behalf but Im wondering about whether I could do this myself as I know the solicitor will charge - can anyone answer that question over whether it would be suitable to write a letter to MP by myself without my solicitors input or not

Thanks

P.S. ANYMORE INPUT WOULD BE HELPFUL THE MORE THE BETTER

MP's hold 'surgeries' when you can make an appointment to see them to discuss issues/problems that you need help with. Call the MP's local office and ask for the next surgery date. You can do this yourself without the solicitor...in fact it will be better if it comes direct from you. MP's do often have success in getting applications moving.

Thanks

Do they write the letter to the home office on my behalf? I will meet with solicitor and probably inform him that I will do so though.

Wow that is a long waiting time!

I'm British and my husband is a non-EU/EEA national. He applied in February this year for ILR by post and got it within five weeks by the end of March.

I hope you get a decision on your application soon!

contact your local MP by yourself, go to the link below:

I've done it by myself, and my MP is quite helpful on my case.

good luck!

Hi

I have emailed my local mp about availability, when I do actually contact them about my issue do I just tell them the situation and ask them to write a letter to the home office on my behalf and thats it?

Thanks
