Electoral role registration

Post by juliajules1979 » Sat Aug 08, 2009 5:08 pm

Hiya

My husband is from Iran and here in the UK on a spouse visa, I am a british citizen.

Could anybody tell me if my husband can be added to the electoral role or would he need to be a British Citizen to be able to do this.

I am trying to collect the documents for ILR and am trying to get more sources than just bank statements and HMRC letters.

Thankyou.

Not quite correct. Commonwealth and Irish Citizens can also be on the electoral register and can vote in any UK elections. EU citizens can participate in local or European elections and can have their names too on the electoral register.

Because Iran is not a member of the commonwealth you will be unable to have him on the electoral register, until he becomes British.

The crazy thing about the UK is that commonwealth citizens can vote in their elections, but that is where their rights ends.
