UK high school student to US high school

Post by Gideon250 » Mon Aug 03, 2009 9:57 am

I have a son who just turned 14, he wants to live with my close friend in Ohio and go to school in that area. However, my family are UK citizens. Is it possible for my son to live with my friend.

In short, no.

I'd say it would be possible, but you would have to sign all legal rights over to the person your son would be living with, essentially he'd have to be adopted and I don't believe that would happen in time.

However, if your son would like to go for 6 months to 1 year, you could look into high school exchange programs for the year. When I was in high school, we has several Germans and Italians there on an exchange program.

Not sure how great this site is, and might be able to find more info on the web, but you can have a look at this:

It is possible to get a F-1 visa, but you attendance at a public secondary school is limited to 12 months and full tuition must be paid in advance. I believe a child can attend a private secondary school on a student visa until graduation. A private high school will average around $7000-8000/year.

More information can be found at the links below, but you may want to contact your local US embassy.

Hope this helps. Best of luck.
