Getting a refund of fee

Post by lj » Mon Aug 10, 2009 11:43 pm

I applied for a visa originally in the Birmingham office. They rejected the visa because my bank could not produce an acceptable online verified statement and I did not receive my real bank statement in time for the application.

The caseworker who rejected me said all I need to do is resubmit the application and just put the bank statement in with it and it is fine. He even gave me my application form back and said not to bother filling in a new one. However, during the assessment, he had asked about why I don't have my degree certificate (as I only had degree supplement with Name, DOB, award, date of award, etc and my transcripts). When he told me to put it in the post, I asked him if the question he had asked earlier was relevant and whether the postal application is likely to result in an issue that I only have transcripts. He said no.

I posted application. Now it is rejected due to not having the degree certificate! This is very frustrating as I have applied 3 times before with same transcripts and all is fine. This caseworker said it would be fine. If he expressed even slightest doubt, I had time to get degree certificates whilst I was waiting for real bank statement to be delivered! He should have told me he could've rejected me on EITHER maintenance fund or lack of degree proof that day.

I am making new application at the end of the month, but feel very cheated. Especially since now seeing the degree certificate looks completely forged compared to my transcripts with a lot less information!

I know the decision will not be overturned, but if I write and give dates/times/locations/etc to the caseworker who rejected the application based on having transcripts, can I get the money refunded? It is A LOT of money to lose when given bad advice from a caseworker who sees hundreds of cases and should be able to be trusted!
