New Citizenship Rules and IRL from Ancestory Visa

Post by bj1975 » Tue Aug 18, 2009 6:16 pm

Hello

I'm a little confused by the new rules under consultation for citizenship. So bare with me if I ask something that isn't correct.

I understand there is a points system for those who have taken certain routes. ie Tier 1, 2, etc. How does this affect someone ILR through an ancestory visa?

I've been residing the UK 10.5 years and I received ILR 7 years ago. This is because I also spent 6 months in the UK in 1996 on an ancestory visa. I think I've covered most of the rules to apply for UK citizenship or at least I did when I checked 6 months ago. Am I still OK to proceed or are there new rules I should consider.

And finally. I have been cohabitating with my fiancee for a little over 2 years who is a born and bred British Citizen. Is citizenship through a spouse or time in the UK a preferred method of citizenship?

Many thanks in advance
:D BJ

It doesn't.

If you clearly meet the rules for naturalisation in your own right, being a spouse makes no difference.

Great thanks JAJ - sounds like none of the proposed changes will affect an Ancestory to ILR person.

One more question. I do quite a lot of travel abroad for work. One or 2 days here and there every week or so. It doesn't come close to affecting the time spent inside the UK but do I have to update the absentee list whilst the application is being processed?
