New passport - old visa

Post by AxeZ » Mon Aug 31, 2009 8:59 pm

Just a quick question.
My wife a serbian citizen just got a new passport.
The old passport had a valid multi entry 2 year schengen visa issued by the Czech embassy in Belgrade.

The visa is valid for one more year.

The question is as follows: Is it possible to travel to schengen countries with new passport without visa and old passport with visa ( just to show visa during entry ) or do we need to get new schengen visa in new passport.

I hope you understood..;)

You can carry both! Well, for most countries anyway.

Thanx for the info.
I was wondering if there is any online documentation about such issue.
I am little reluctant to show up at the border with my wife and she is refused entry.
Btw, we are living outside EU although I am EU citizen.
Maybe I should start carrying our wedding certificate just in case...:)

That's a good back-up plan! Have copies made incase of loss.

Thanx..;)
Just wondering, should I have original marriage certificate with me or copy will suffice?

Original better! But if you're afraid of losing it, CERTIFIED copy is the next best thing. I don't know where your marriage certificate is from, but I have a few copies (not photocopies) of my green style UK one, from the General Register Office. They look exactly like the orginal, so I just travel with a copy in my luggage. But if it's just a simple photocopy of the original, then best to get it certified by a solicitor.

Ok, just an addenum
I've entered Hungary with my wife, showed her old passport with visa and new one completely empty.
No problems there, no questions asked, no need for marriage certificate...they didn't ask for it, I haven't showed them. They just let us in.
So this concludes it..:)
