They are not, same rule applies as term time.

You can do Volunteer work full time for the firm you are writing dissertation on and that will be counted towards your study requirement. Need a letter from University to give authorisation and also need a letter from the company that they are accepting your university's proposal for you.

If company is intrested to pay you money during that period they are free to do so.

I think you need to read my answer again. It has volunteer and has tobe authorised by University. It says on your visa terms as well if you read visa stamp on your passport.
