Hi

They are allowed to work full time during summer only.

They can work on work placement.

@Funke

There was decision on this last year.

The answer is NO.

From common sense point of view, they should be able to work since they dont go to class but exchange emails with supervisor but "law is law", they cannot work full-time but can start working full-time on submission of dissertation.

Thanks Angelica and Magsi for your prompt reply.

Angelica, plz post the decision here as well if you can (or if u guide me, i'll try to find) and one more point

- Lets take this hypothetical situation

Mr. A Starts his Dissertation in Feb 2010 and semester runs till May2010, after this Mr. A gets summer break(He can work full time, we all know)
Uni starts in Sep 2010 , he submits his dessertation on first day.
Now as i understand frm Angelica, Mr. A can continue working full time without break?? is that correct Plz confirm

Thanks in Advance,
Kash

I dont know how to attach a word document on this site but look at this:

" This means that you should not work full-time until you have submitted your dissertation or thesis and finished your studies, unless you are doing a work placement."

http://www.ukcosa.org.uk/student/workin ... ssertation

As soon as he submits his dissertation his studies are finished unless he fails in his exam, which he will come to know once results are declared so from the time he submits his dissertation and till the time his result is declared, he is free and should be allowed to work full time as per common sense.
UK_Banned_Member, i request you to QUOTE the information here from which u getting your ans "NO".

Thanks in advance,

If the person is on a student visa it is because to work full time in term time would breach a condition of their stay, it is the law.

OG (Student – thesis – term time employment) Nigeria [2008] UKAIT 00057

"The fact that a student is writing up a thesis rather than attending classes at a university does not exempt him from the limitation on paid work of twenty hours per week during term time."

Hi PaperPusher,

There is no doubt about term time working hours but i think u did not see my ques. and also u did not see the below paragraph which i'm copying and pasting for you and i quote:
""

Mr. A Starts his Dissertation in Feb 2010 and semester runs till May2010, after this Mr. A gets summer break(He can work full time, we all know)

I have a question for you. Is it still the student's term time (part of the course) when the dissertation is submitted? If it is still the student's term time then no full time work is allowed. I could put it another way, when the thesis is submitted is it the end of the course? If not then it is still term time. I hope this is clear enough for you.

It is not too difficult to work out if it is a student's term time I hope in this hypothetical situation.
