surname on birth certificate

Post by hmm » Fri Sep 11, 2009 11:59 pm

on behalf of my friend..
Can a child who was born in the UK take his father's FIRST name as his surname? Is it legal?

That's what the child's parents do where they comes from - they take their dad's first name as their surname and they want to carry on doing that in the UK if possible.

It is very likely that your friend's child would be able to have his father's first name as his surname. I know a lot of close friends with their children taking their fathers' first names as surnames.

Other members of the board may have an input into the legal aspect of the issue.

hmm, yes that seems to be fine.

For example:

http://www.leics.gov.uk/index/community ... _birth.htm
When you go to initially register the birth of a new born you will need to have the following information: -
Child: -
Date and place of birth; if the birth is one of twins, triplets, etc. the time of each child's birth will also be needed
S ex of the child
The forename(s) and surname in which it is intended that the child will be brought up
