Hello
I recently received UK citizenship and I was preparing to apply for my UK passport when there arose a sudden and urgent business demand at office which required me to visit India for a week in September end. I understand from the passport application form that it would take 6 weeks for the new UK passport to arrive and I require to be present here for an interview. So is it possible that I travel on my old passport to India now and apply for the British passport after I return back from the business tour? kindly advice.
Thanks
AJP

That advice I'm afraid is nonsense. There is no problem travelling on the Indian passport.

It may not entirely be nonsense as you put it. Indian does not support dual nationality and I will only advice this person to cross check very well before embrking on such trip with an Indian passport.

Should I check with the UK home office or the Indian embassy?

Might be a good idea to check with both for advice on how to embark on your urgent trip.

We should learn to be polite even when we disgree with someones opinion. Saying the advise is nonsense is not polite.
You lose your Indian Citizenship Automatically when you gain any other citizenship and secondly your ILR is voided automatically when you gain UK citizenship, so giving that fact that you travel for example, you will find it difficult to re-enter.
An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.

Hi get2ajp
Legally speaking your ILR is invalid as soon as you get your
Citizenship. Can you let me know what home office or Indian embassy advice you . As i am in a similar situation as yours.

Legally speakitiing ILR no long applies but you have British Citizenship and are therefore guaranteed reentry. The Indian authorities will have no way of telling unless you divulge the fact.

And if you apply for OCI you would divulge the fact that you travelled on an invalid Indian Passport.....
