Special visitor visa - sponsorship and accommodation

Post by js1000 » Wed Sep 16, 2009 11:01 pm

I'm part sponsoring my girlfriend for her special visitor (prospective student) visa.

I can prove adequate funds and that I have a job and I'm a British citizen. However, at present I'm still looking for an apartment and so I don't have adequate accommodation.

Would I still be able to act as a sponsor given the fact that although I haven't yet sorted out accommodation, I have more than adequate funds to acquire accommodation?

Then acquire it first, before you become a sponsor!

Accommodation Required

I must agree with Rozem, you have to find one soon. We have sponsored some relatives and it is very important to show proof that one has the proper accommodation for them. In fact for relatives, e.g. parents, HO even requires that you have a space/room which they could utilise for themselves.

Good luck on finding one.

The requirements of the prospective student visa says that the applicant must be able to meet the costs of the course, accommodation and maintenance but it does not say that accommodation is required per se.

I realise that what the rules say and what the ECO does in practice are two different things

Yeah, not cheap, if London ur looking at about 15/20 up front.

Plus, if ur accommodating ur girl at ur place the ECO may well take the view she coming here primarily to live with you and is therefore NOT a genuine student - one to watch for.

Well, working on the assumption that £600 a month is sufficient for accommodation and maintenance outside of London (this is what they require for the Tier 4 visa), between my girlfriend and I we already had enough money upfront, in addition to the fact that I have a full-time job...

Does that not count for something?
