Self employed-what documents?

Post by philwafc » Sat Sep 19, 2009 4:02 pm

Hello all, my wife will be submitting her settlement visa application the week after next and as i'm self employed I just want to make sure i'm providing enough documents regarding my finances. I have 6 months bank statements, my 08-09 business accounts which show my yearly income plus tax I paid, also I have accounts for my projected yearly income for 09-10, and my tax statement from the Inland Revenue for 08-09. Do I need something to show how much i'm earning per month or will the ECO work this out from my bank statements and my accounts. Thanks for any advice

Hi Phil

The documents you have listed should suffice for someone self employed. Hav you got rest, like accomadation details, bank statementss, wedding photos, correspondence between each other etc?

Hi batleykhan, yeah all the other issues are covered pretty well (I hope) It was just my accounts only show my yearly earnings, and as the question on the application form asks for the sponsors monthly earnings(which i've given an answer for) I was unsure as to whether the ECO would want it breaking down month by month, but i'm sure if they look at my accounts and bank statements and can use a calculater correctly they can work it out....cheers

Hi Phil, have you prepared a monthly budget where is shows your income and expenses? If you do, then you would address your issue there.

I havn't made a budget chart exactly, but i've highlighted and made notes on my bank statements as to where my deposits and withdrawals are coming from and going to

Hi Phil, I think it would be a bonus if you prepare a monthly budget for the following reasons ...
1) It is a summary where ECOs can clearly see your average monthly income. ie they can double check items on your bank statements. Of course, your outgoings as well.
2) Provides a quick way of comparing your income (less of your rent and council tax) against the income support threshold.
3) ECOs like organised applications (so i heard) and if you summarise the financial part of your application in a form of a budget chart and i think it can only work in your favour.

Good luck

Should you need a sample, I have got one that I used back in January and would be happy to email it to you if you let me know your email address.
