Urgent Help

I came to UK last year in October and studied English Diploma from one of collage in London the course ended this August 14. Now, I have taken admission in University in Master course, the course starting 24 September 2009 and have paid the half fees.
My question is my visa expire next month in October I would like to extend my visa the last collage where I have studied English Diploma not in sponsor licence. Can I apply for extension to show Home Office that collage Diploma. My second question is there is gap between more then a month in my last college course 14 August 2009- University Course 24 September 2009.
I have heard that more then a month gap between courses can refuse the visa extension.
Can some one guide me I would be thankful to you.
