Confirmation of right to work in UK

Post by MAHI87 » Sun Oct 04, 2009 7:00 pm

I was given Discretionary Leave to remain in the UK on 24th Jul 06 for a period of 3 yrs..before it expired, i applied for an extension of the same as detailed in the Home Office letter given to me at that time. I received an acknowledgement of the same from UKBA on the 17th of July 09(which confirms that i applied within time).

I have joined a new job and as a security check, my employer wants confirmation of my right to live & work in the UK. Since all my papers are with the UKBA, I phoned their helpline and was asked to write to them asking for a letter confirming my status. I did so but have not received any acknowledgement or any letter from UKBA.

What should i do as my employer is threatening to terminate my job if in the next 10 days i don't provide the documents..

The employer checking service is a developing service that offers employers the opportunity to check the status of individuals to work in the United Kingdom in the following specific circumstances:

â– where the individual has an outstanding application or appeal with the Agency;

Thanks for the reply..I did tell them that but they say I should provide them with the documents required.

Do I have any legal protection ( I work as a contractor with me operating as a limited company) in case the documents do not arrive in time and they decide to terminate my contract based on that?
