A Few Questions about EEA Family Member Application

Hello Guys

I have a few questions about my application as a non EEA Family member (Husband) of a EEA national. I shall look forward to your replies.

We married in 2004 and now it is going to be 5 years soon, which makes me eligible to apply for the PR.

1 - I (non-EEA) will be applying on the EEA4 form and my wife and our new born daughter (both EEA nationals) will be applying on the EEA3 From. Both EEA3 and EEA4 forms will be sent together. Correct?

2 - The application process takes at least 6 months. Correct?

3 - My job requires international travel. My wife also does not want to give away her passport, as she also often travels back home. Is there any way we can send our passports at a later stage?

4 - In last 5 years there were 2 gaps when my wife was not working. My income was sufficient, so she did not claim any benefit. Would this be acceptable for the BIA?
In other words she was
August 2004 - Nov 2005 (employed)
Nov 2005 - July 2006 (did not work)
July 2006 - October 2006 (employed)
Nov 2006 - March 2008 (did not work as she had some medical problems. She had 2 operations in UK + she did a couple of educational courses from UK colleges, distance learning but took exams in person)
March 2008 - Present (employed)

1) Yes.
2) It is minimum 6 months. People have been waiting for their's for morethen a year in some cases.
3) You can request your passports back from home office after submission of your application.
4) In current way of handling applications HO is asking for justifications of each gap. So get prepared.

Periods of involuntary unemployment duly recorded by the
relevant employment office, periods not worked for reasons
not of the person's own making and absences from work or
cessation of work due to illness or accident shall be regarded as
periods of employment.
