Approved translator?

My birth certificate is not in English and I need it to proof my age. It says in the HSMP guide and FAQ that "Where a document is not in English the original must be accompanied by a fully certified translation by an officially recognised translator. An officially recognised translator is defined as one that is recognised by the local British High Commission or Embassy."

Now I've looked everywhere at the British High Commision site in Australia and couldn't find any reference about recognised translator. I wonder if NAATI is good enough? They're the one that the Australian government use for official translation. I can call them tomorrow morning but before doing that does anyone here know? Otherwise I will have to give them a buzz.

Why dont you call up or email BHC, Australia requesting for the information while pointing out that its missing from their website.

I used to traslate my birth certificate in my own country.
(At that time not for HSMP Applicaiton).

What I did, is just to calll them and they will tell you the list of approved translator (by the british embassy) that you can contact.

If you used this translator the you will be able to ask them to verify the translation. They will stamp and verify your dicuments.

Yah the thing is I've emailed them (the British High Comm) and they never got back to me. It's really annoying. Anyway I've just decided to move my application a few months back so I'm in no rush at the moment and can wait until they got back to me. Otherwise I'm just going to email them again.

My experience if you are dealing with embassy anywhere in the world, do not send them email. It is also appy for example if you are apply for Visa.


Indeed, normally they will not response to our email for obvious reason. They received hundred of email everyday and they do not have enough resource to answer any email.

Better, you call them. You might not easy to get thorugh since the lines are quite busy but once you manage it you will get what you want.
