Can my husband apply for my greencard. I am on F1 visa?

I am on F1 student visa. I entered US in May 2009 and got married here with my boyfriend in Aug 2009 who is a greencard holder. His citizenship is due in Sep 2012. He is thinking to apply for my greencard. When is the best time to apply? Should I apply for my greencard since he can sponsor me. But I guess it will take another 4 year for my greencard to come through. Or should I wait when he gets his citizenship in 2012. Please advice.
