"otherwise than by descent"

Someone born in the Crown's Dominions in 1945 was a british subject, later a Citizen of the UK and Colonies. The person has a UK passport. Can you think why they would have citizenship 'Otherwise than by descent"?

Crown service of a parent.
Naturalisation in the UK.

Any other reasons?

Does "by descent" or "otherwise than by descent", apply to this person?

All the postings of lorencew have been from a country outside the UK, so the evidence suggests he does not work at Gatwick Airport.

For the benefit of lorencew, can we have some real answers please.
