Child Passport Renewal

My childs passport expires soon and i had couple of questions:
1. when we originally applied for the child passport - my partner who is a BC signed the passport application form - Question is we want to now renew the passport for a further 5 years and i am now a BC myself - can i sign the passport application form? Child was born in 2004 in the UK

2. are there any pitfalls we need to be aware of?
