that is a blatant misinterpretation - the guy in question got a visa by proving his long-term relationship to a local. he proved it in many ways. among them was joint ownership of a pet. ok?

The Mirror, like The Sun, is a comic book.

Perhaps because people being threatened with deportation for not sending in the right sized photos isn't really news worthy is it? If you don't read the guidelines and send in a photo that is the wrong size then that is your own problem. It's like when assembling a bookcase, you don't have the right size nail so instead of going out and getting the right one you try and force a bigger one in. It's not newsworthy.

And yes the UKBA are clowns, the UK government is full of clowns and the immigration rules were created by clowns that need a radical overhaul.

I am not a great fan of tabloid newspaper, but i have to say the Mirror is the only one of them that i can bear to read, occassionally, in addition to Guardian and Independent.

I don't think they are clown in any way, shape or form. Obviously tabloids are aimed at people from certain socio-economic group, so they have to make sure they cater for the needs of their readers, which i don't think make them a clown.

Their views conform to a center-left agenda, which i firmly support.

I think UKBA is wrong to reject an application on grounds that the applicant did not provide the right photograph. It is a waste of adminstrative fees and time. I think it is more news worthy than the false cat claim, for sure. Then again immigrants have been demonised, atagonised and vilified in the UK, to the extent that any topics aimed at potraying the extreme hardship and discrimination they face will be a non-seller, are opposed to "not news worthy".

I know first hand of someone who was in that exact situation (because I advised them), initiated JR proceedings against the HO, finally got the visa, and now is pursuing £1000s of cost which you, me & all other tax payers will fund. Multiply this by the many 100s of other quite frankly stupid refusals and you get a flavour for the incompetency that exists at the HO.

No one is denying that the HO is imcompetent, find me a civil service department that isn't incompetent. However, if you send in the wrong photo size then that is your fault and not the HO and by pursuing thousands of pounds for it is quite frankly a disgrace and is a sign of society as a whole being driven by the 'sueing' culture.

Lots of bad decisions yes but in both directions. Some are refused who shouldn't be and some are admitted who shouldn't be.

And no it's not news worthy, and neither is the cat story either. I saw a 4 line comment piece online about it but didn't see it in their actual printed newspaper. But stories like that will always be published when a topic is big news, so that was blown out of proportion because immigration is a hot topic at the moment, just like some stupid stories were published when Clinton and Lewinski were having their affair and the Beckham and Loos or whatever her name was etc. Just like you have these girls who claim to have slept with 872 footballers all in 1 night etc.

No one writes back to them to say that photo size is out by 1/2 cm. Eventually after waiting MONTHS they get some an impersonal answer saying no visa, no right of appeal, and requests they leave the country immediately before they send the heavies to their front door and physically deport them.

What's wrong with that? If YOU don't comply with the guidelines then it is YOUR own fault and no one elses. You ever thought that you might not get a reply for months because they are completely snowed under with claims. Everyone makes spelling mistakes from time to time, as long as the post is understood then i couldn't careless about them.

However you more or less answered why the BNP are gaining support, namely immigration. Controlled immigration is a good thing for every country, uncontrolled immigration like we have here right now isn't. I'd have thought that everyone would understand a simple concept like that but it appears that's not the case.
