Can I contract in Europe, while on UK Tier 1?

I am being considered for a 6 month contract role in Europe at the moment. I am being sponsored for a short term Workpermit by the company.

If I were to go ahead with it, how would this affect me Tier 1 Visa (due for extension in July 2011).

Would it expire/cancel?
Will I be able to come back in UK on the same visa?
Will I be able to extend it (meet the requirements)?
Will I get considered for ILR and when?
Any other concern I must have?

If you are entitled to work in continental Europe, and tier 1 does NOT give that permission, then you can work in continental Europe. If you are not entitled to work in Europe as per your nationality then you will need the correct visa

Van Der Elst Visa's are little known about but can potentially grant you the ability to work for 12 motnhs in the EU whilst on a UK Visa.

Getting workpermit is not a problem. Like I said I am being sponsored by the company for 6 months. I just wanted to know how this would impact my UK Tier1 which is still valid for year and a half.

Will I be able to extend it when required?
Will my being away in Europe be a problem when i apply for ILR?
