How long can a visitor stay in the UK?

Post by jmorgan288 » Sun Nov 22, 2009 2:16 pm

My father has just been given a long-term 5 year visa. I understand that he can stay in the UK for up to 180 days.

However, there is one thing that is not clear to me. When he leaves the country after 6 months, can he come back right away, say, after 5 days? For example, can he come back to our home country, stay there for 5 days and then come back to UK?

My sincere thanks for your clarification?

He's allowed to stay 6 months out of the year. This is the norm.

Thank you for your replies.

But, what if my father visits me from May to November this year. He comes back to his home in Dec. Can he flies to the UK in Jan next year? Are 2009 and 2010 considered different years in this case, which means he can flies to UK in Jan?

Thanks,

I think that should be fine. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Six months in every twelve, so no he can't do that. Well, he could, depends if he gets caught, and getting caught can have dire consequences.

I'm sorry, I guess you need to wait 6 months to go by before he can travel to the UK again.
