Netherlands - need a visa when there is a UK residency card?

Post by FlossyT99 » Mon Jan 04, 2010 3:33 pm

I wanted to take my friend to Holland for 5 days in March. He has a UK residency card (the 5 year one).

I checked holland's embassy site, and it says that he doesn't need a visa if he had a EU/EEA Family Member permit. I'm not sure on the in's and out's of it all. But then it also says that he requires a visa if the family member is not travelling with him...

If he has to get a visa, how long does it usually take to get a short-stay visa approved?

All advice/help is appreciated. Thanks

Is he your 'friend' as in boyfriend, and the UK RC was issued to him through your being his EU citizen partner? If so, and you are travelling together, then he DOES NOT need a visa!
If he is travelling (or meeting up in NL) with the person through whom the UK Residence Card was issued (his EU dependant), then he DOES NOT need a visa!
If he is travelling alone (ie. without the EU dependant) then he DOES need a visa!
