dentist from India, scope in UK?

Post by apply4hsmp » Fri Dec 23, 2005 1:22 pm

Anybody knows how easy it is to get a dental job ?

I am from India and planning to move with my spouse...I know you have to give IQE exams to practise...but till then....

I want to get going, means have a job (say) "dentist under supervision" after registering myself with the dental authority. Meanwhile I will prepare for the exams and qualify to practise w/o supervision.

I know you can get yourself (temporary) registerd with British Dental for 5 yrs, if you want to work under supervision. This is when you have a dental degree from outside UK.

Is it possible to get some/similar job till I clear my exams ?

The UK is rather short of dentists and accordingly it is not surprising that the Healthcare shortage occupations list includes a number of entries relating to dentists.

I have not got a clue about the technical dentistry issues you mention but assuming that you have or can get legal permission to practice as a dentist in the UK, then I would not expect you to have a problem finding a position and the employer getting a Work Permit for you.

If you use www.google.co.uk and click on the "pages from the UK" button and search on ..... work as dentist in the UK ..... you will see there are lots of hits that will assist you further.

In particular this webpage from the BDA will help you considerably.

hey john thanks! :)

that link was of help.

Also any idea if a dentist has to apply directly since it is coming in shortage list what's he process ?

Do you still need to be sponsored or can get a visa based on shortage list ?
(Don't mind if it is too simple but I don't know...)

You do still need to be sponsored. All it means is that the company doesn't need to prove they haven't been able to find an EEA national to fill the post. You still need to convince a dental practice to employ you!!!!
