fiancee visa success

Post by joe31 » Sat Dec 24, 2005 11:38 am

Hi,
Thanks John for your advice - I went to Bucharest to be with my fiance while she applied for fiancee visa and was granted it. She flies into UK before end of December.
One query ! we planned to marry approx 3-4 months after her arrival, now she is contemplating having her mother at wedding but this may take her stay over 6 months can the fiancee visa be extended ?

Many thanks...

can the fiancée visa be extended ?
Congratulations on your fiancée getting her FV ... great feeling isn't it!

Extended? Only in exceptional circumstances. It certainly should not be part of the plan. Sorry I am not following why her mother being at the wedding should cause a delay past the six month mark. The FV has been granted specifically so that the marriage can happen in the UK during the six-month period.

After she gets to the UK you need to wait about a fortnight before going to the Register Office to give the needed Notice of Intention to Marry. Given that she is a non-EEA Citizen that notice can only be given at a designated Register Office, that is, designated by the Home Office for immigration purposes and no doubt trained concerning checking the validity of visas etc..

Going to the Register Office does not necessarily bind you to have the wedding on a particular date although of course the Register Office can be booked at that time if you wish. The point is that until the Notice is given, it is posted publicly for about two weeks and then the necessary licence to marry is issued, it is not possible to get married. The licence is valid for 12 months, but of course you are up against the six-month validity of the FV.

Hi John,
Thanks for your reply, I think it is to do with her Mum affording the flights etc and applying for visitors visa. I told her not to worry - but anyways its no big deal !
Yes its a great feeling and relief to see the visa in her passport, I think Liverpool is a designated office and is the nearest to me.

Regards...

Joe, I have just checked, Liverpool Register Office is designated and indeed is the only designated one in the whole of the Merseyside area.

Getting her Mum a visitor's visa? I would not expect that to be a particular problem, especially if you undertake to cover the cost of maintenance and accommodation while she is here in the UK. Attending her daughter's marriage sounds like a rather good reason for her to visit.

Cost of the air fare? Of course totally up to you to decide whether to make the offer but let's just say that marrying someone from a country noticeably poorer than the UK does give rise to situations not necessarily applying in a UK-UK marriage.

Hi Joe,

Just out of interest, could you post us your timeline? How long it took to get the fiancee visa from the time you first put in your application?

It's helpful to know because it gives others an indication how long we might have to wait.
