confiscation of funds

Post by mochyn » Sun Jan 10, 2010 12:11 am

An Albanian man was stopped at Stansted Airport trying to return to his own country but was found to have entered the UK illegally and worked cash in hand.He had £1100 pounds in cash on his person which was taken from him pending investigation.
All his hard earned cash disappeared.
A lesson to be learnt?

Indeed a lesson to be learnt, that he had been committing a crime by working and therefore the earnings were proceeds from a crime, and thus liable to be taken from him.

The was a guy on the last ep of Border Force got caught with 15 grand as he was leaving, couldn't prove he'd paid tax on it - confiscated.

Another (Thai) woman was confused about how much she had on her, they kept finding more secreted about her person, found 17k, but she found her bank book and could prove she had the cash. She was ok!

I think the IO said the limit u could take without provenance is £1000.
