Dear Board members,

Please advice.

I am having UK permanent residency. This year i have been diagnosed with cancer in advanced stages. I have a 6 month old baby to take care of. I need someone full time to take care of myself and my baby.

My mother was helping us for some time. She was with us for around five months but went back to her home country in November because of her visitor visa expiry.

Do you think that if she applies for a visitor visa again in the home country now it will get rejected ? Even if she gets the visa will she not have problems at UK immigration as it will only have been a short time she was here before?

Is there any other category under which she can apply the visa for? We can get the doctors letter telling about my disability?

So sorry to hear of your condition. Your use of the word "advanced" does not sound good and I am sure I can speak for all other members of this Board in wishing you well.

I think that would assist greatly. Indeed your mother should not apply without such supporting documentation.

I think your mother should apply for another visitor visa as soon as that doctor's letter is available. She should stress the exceptional situation in which you find yourself and your need for assistance to this time. ECOs are actually human .... hope it works out.

I'd like to express my most heartfelt well wishes for you. My sister is an oncologist back in Brazil, and I can only sympathise with the condition.

I join my fellow moderators and other members in expressing my sympathy at your situation and wishing you the best that could possibly be in relation to the medical situation.

I believe that the visa officer back home will if not now (unlikely) at some point in time need details of a future long term plan that you intend to take in relation to this unfortunate situation. Understandably the visa officer has to apply the immigration rules and it will be difficult for mum to meet those for a visitor if it turns out she is in the 'long term' more or less living in the UK as a carer. It may be something that you consider and address prior to mum's visa application if possible (e.g. through the primary care trust macmillan team etc) but do not delay it if such can not be organised soon.
