rr,

Character checks include verification of referee details so this may be an issue to consider. Without having access to your file it is difficult to pinpoint what the issue is but the HO have found something that has made them dig somewhat deeper.

TIMELINE AFTER APPLICATION SUBMISSION HERE, PLEASE?

Post by prateekgoel76 » Thu Dec 22, 2005 12:16 pm

Hi All,
Got my approval within one month of applying. Quite impressed with IND and NCS service.
Here is my time-line:

Applied on 18th Nov at NCS Brent based on 4 years WP + 1 year ILR,
22/11/2005 - Application received by HO at Liverpool.
26/11/2005 - Fees debited on credit card.
29/11/2005 - Acknowledgement, dated 26/11/2005, received.
17/12/2005 - Received approval letter dated 09/12/2005.
Regards,
Prateek

Hi to everyone,

Has anyone used NCS in Newcastle. I have for the first time and I was told my application is straight forward all the documents are OK.

What I want to know for how many days HOME OFFICE is closed for Chirstmas.

I will keep you uptodate the progress and timeline of my application

(Sorry if I am in the wrong forum).

My wife's final timeline :

Applied - 15/11 NCS Brent
Ack : 23/11
Return of life in uk pass cert : 29/11
Approval received : 12/12 ( dated 7/12)
Ceremony : 13/12 (public)
Passport application : 20/12 ( Check and Send at post office)
Passport received : 29/12 ( with name change to married surname)

So only just over a month from application to passport involving a week's delay in applying for a passport and the xmas / new year period.

I'm not sure there is another country out there that processes citizenship applications with such efficiency ( mine took just about 20 days from app to passport). Throughout I never had to change any travel plans, kept my old passport with me all the time and could travel freely on business while my application was being considered. Well worth the expense in my view.

I was wondering

Suppose the approval letter is lost in the post, how will i know that my application has been approved.

If i do not then will i not lose the chance to register for the ceremony and consequently lose the "window" to apply for citizenship and will have to file a fresh application?

Roger, highly unlikely because in fact two letters from different addresses need to go missing in the post! ..... the letter from IND in Liverpool saying you are successful and the letter from your Local Authority advising you about the Citizenship Ceremony.

Not all local authorities send letters regarding citizenship ceremonies. Mine didn't - you were meant to contact them once you heard from the home office.

I got two separate letters ( approval and citizenship invitation both from the home office) but my wife only got the citizenship approval and invitation in the one letter. Neither of us got anything from the local council.

Therefore it is possible for the approval to go missing as the citizenship ceremony invitation from the home office arrives by normal post. I would advise calling them up if it has been 2-3 months since the application. This is worth doing as you only have 90 days after your aproval to attend a ceremony.

Rogerroger,
Firstly as per my post - there don't have to be two letters. Sometimes you get just one so it is possible that you were only sent one letter which got lost.

Secondly, the home office have no way of telling if the letter has not been delivered as they send citizenship invitations by normal post so it is purely up to you to chase it up.

The best thing to do would be to just give them a call and find out where your application is in the approval process. It cannot hurt and if it has been a few months since you applied, it is probably a sensible thing to do anyway.

I have tried the email route twice. Got an acknowledgement first time, but no contact subsequently. The second time, there was no response whatsoever!...

Stick to trying to call them instead, bound to work at some point.

Good Luck!...

Still no news

Post by confused1 » Thu Jan 05, 2006 7:00 pm

I've applied for Naturalisation through my solicitor in mid September but still i haven't heard anything from the Home Office. Earlier I phoned the HO and they said that they've received my application (4 Oct) and now it is waiting to be allocated to a case worker :(

They says HO received too many applications in October, that's why there are delays. Sounds terrible.

Congratulations to those who received quicker responce from the HO.

Home Office charges us too much but the service they provides in return aren't really impressive. If any govt department had treated ordinary citizens the way they treats applicant in IND, then we would have seen many inquaries to establish the reason for delays plus I'm pretty much sure they would have asked the minister or person in charge to step down.

Confused1, any particular reason why you applied through a solicitor? The general experience around here is that Citizenship applications submitted via NCS certainly seem to be dealt with a lot quicker than those submitted by post, which is the method your solicitor would have used.

The IND website indicates that naturalisation applications are currently taking an average of 3.99 months, so you are still under that average.

There wasn't any particular reason to see the solicitor. It's just the NCS is too far from the place where I live. and I just wanted to make sure all the documents are in correct order. But, still no clue what's going on!

Point taken. As a Moderator I have the ability to see the IP address you used to make your post. So I can work out from where that post was made.

And I agree with you ... on reflection there are some very large gaps on the UK map ... many miles away from the nearest NCS office.

It will not help you personally but maybe you could try to get your local Council to open an NCS office? As you say, the nearest one at present is quite a distance away.

Thanks Roger. I send them emails previously and the address was nationalityenquiries@ind.homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk

Well this time, I have sent another email, addressing to a senior manager or somebody. I made the wordings very politly and told them (almosr beged) that I am still hoping to receive a decision within the current expected time. lol.

But as you would be aware of this, I don't think it would help much at all. Anyway, thanks guys you have been very helpful here. It's quiet interesting to read so many of yours experiences and comments those comes along with them.
I'll let you know if I receive any replay, specially if, only if, I receive any replay of the email I've sent recently

By the way, some of you would be saying that If I have waited for so long then why can't I just wait for few other months? Well.. its just once you've waited for so long for something and you're almost there.. you're anxiety begins to bit... lol... I'm sure you've experienced it before... for example:

Night before your exams results

Meeting your girl friend, knowing that she found out that you're cheating her.

Etc..Etc..

i have been trying to get through to the naturalisation group on the above number for the past few days, but kept on getting disconnected, this time i tried i finally got through to the number. perhaps past 3:30 p.m. is a good time to get to them, perhaps i was lucky.
i was placed on hold, and the automated system states that it is taking upto 6 months to process the application.

after about 5 minutes i got through and they told me that my case is with a case working team under consideration. i asked them if i dont hear from them in a month should i call back, and she replied in the affirmative.
how long do you guys think it takes for a case working team to process the case

It clearly depends on the individual case. Some cases are processed in just a few working days and some are obviously taking a few months.

Not everyone's circumstances and applications are the same.

For those who need to carry out further character enquiry, I am wodering if applicant provide police certificate got from UK and/or home country when submit their naturalisation application at either NCS or by post, will it speed up the process and to avoid such delay on 'character enquiry?

As far as I know, the police certificate is a complusory requirement for US immigrant visa application.
