Do i have any options

Post by dagsky » Wed Jan 11, 2006 8:03 am

Hi i must say that people do a tremendous job on this website helping people!! Ok so yet another query coming your way.

My ultimate aim to bear in mind is that i would want to become a british citizen at the end of the day.

So the picture is this, i'm born in zimbabwe in 1978 (rhodesia at the time). My parents are born in zimbabwe aswell 1953 and 1956. Both my parents hold zimbabwean passports. Now this is where it gets a little tricky, i read somewhere in this forum that so long as a parent/grandparent held a britsh passport then i should be able to claim ancestry but i can't find the topic now!!

My grandmother on my mothers side was born in zimbabwe aswell 1920 and held a passport which says BRITSH PASSPORT /SOUTHERN RHODESIA on the cover. In the passport it has got my mothers name listed in it aswell. I believe my grandmothers parents came from yemen.

My grandfather on my fathers side was born in india and held a britsh passport and then migrated to zimbabwe in 1929. However i have not had access to his passport so i can't say whats written on it. My grandmother on my fathers side was born in india aswell and i assume she to held the same passport.

I have once queried this information with a company called 1st Contact in london and they said i may be entitled to COLONIAL REGISTRATION. I then emailed them to enquire more and they told me i'd have to folk out £150 for more info!!! So before shelling out anything i'd like more opinions on this issue. Doing a search on google doesn't tell me what a colonial registration is so i've got no idea what they on about!

All help will be most appreciated!

Does this help? :-

Guidance - UK Ancestry (INF 9)

OK, not exactly what you were asking but I don't think you even qualify for a UK Ancestry visa.

Others will hopefully comment on the nationality aspect. I suspect their answer will also be in the negative.

Not true I'm afraid - parent must usually be British by birth or naturalisation in the UK (plus further requirements). And you can't get citizenship from a UK born grandparent, although you may be able to get an ancestry visa if you have one.

I've never heard of "Colonial Registration"
