The "new Irish" , indeed. Get an Irish passport due to the hassels of renewing your own passport. Insanity.kayac00 wrote: If it wasnt such a hassle to renew his romanian passport he probbaly wouldnt bother with either
If someone has lived on this island for six years like an Irish citizen, is married to an Irish citizen, intends to continue living on this island like an Irish citizen and is entitled to apply to become an Irish citizen, why would any Irish citizen object to this person becoming an Irish citizen and thus carry an Irish passport?IrishTom wrote:The "new Irish" , indeed. This lunacy is continuing and people wonder why the average Irish person is p*ssed off?
He is as Irish as pasta. Hes married to an Irish person, so what? Does his missus intend on picking up Romanian citizenship? Yer man only wants an Irish passport to avoid the hassel of renewing his Romanian one.benifa wrote:If someone has lived on this island for six years like an Irish citizen, is married to an Irish citizen, intends to continue living on this island like an Irish citizen and is entitled to apply to become an Irish citizen, why would any Irish citizen object to this person becoming an Irish citizen and thus carry an Irish passport?IrishTom wrote:The "new Irish" , indeed. You say the average Irish person would be unhappy about this. I really don't think they would.
I feel you may be confusing Irish ethnicity with Irish citizenship.IrishTom wrote:He is as Irish as pasta.
Kay has not lived in Romania for the past six years.IrishTom wrote:Does his missus intend on picking up Romanian citizenship?
So it would seem. So what?IrishTom wrote:Yer man only wants an Irish passport to avoid the hassel of renewing his Romanian one.
You say this, but Kay's husband clearly has ties with this island, as well as with the United Kingdom, which has already been discussed on this thread.IrishTom wrote:We are being swamped with people, who have phuc all ties with this great nation, applying for citizenship, and indeed getting it.
It devalues Irish citizenship. It devalues the struggle of my northern cousins to fight for the right to be considered Irish. This man wants Irish citizenship for one reason, he reckons its less hassel than renewing his own.benifa wrote:So it would seem. So what?
If I married a Chinese woman, would that make me Chinese? Paying tax to the crown does not make one Irish.benifa wrote:

I don't want to get in to an argument with you Tom. You are perfectly entitled to your opinion. I'm merely responding.
