Name change on an EEA visa

Post by Pasta » Sun Jan 31, 2010 8:43 pm

Last year I got a visa under EEA2. At the time my partner and had been together for 5 years but were not married. We have decided to get married! I was curious – if I was to take his last name, how would I change the name on my current visa? (I already know how to change it my passport.)

Does changing my name on my passport automatically allow me to change my name on my visa?

Cheers

It is not necessary to change the name on your residence card - simply travel with both passports if the case.

The name on your RC doesn't automatically change. You have to resubmit a EEA2 application for this reason.

You can change your name but HO will charge you fee.

You WILL NOT be charged to change your name on an EEA application, which is the case in question!
The major inconvenience will be that OP will have to re-apply all over again and go through the process as if it was their first time!
Plum70 is correct!

Thanks for the responses.

To sum this up - If I decide to change my name my surname - I am NOT required to change my name on my RC? But when I travel I should carry the passport with my previous surname which has the RC with the previous surname AND the new passport with my new surname ?

If I want to change the the RC then I will need to go through the application process again. ?

Did I get this right?

I would like this in writing from Home Office - however, I have no been able to find this information. Anyone have a link?

Thank for all your help!
