Working Visa Stamp 4

Post by NewIrish » Tue Feb 09, 2010 9:02 am

Hi All....

I am in Ireland since August 2006 on a Working Visa. I got a stamp 4. working full time and all is ok.

I am thinking to start my own business as a partner with a friend but I want to keep my full time work. not sure if I am allowed? do I need to inform my current employer? Would this affect my stamp status? would this affect my plans for applying for the citizenship?

Thanks for your advice

being on stamp 4 because of your working visa, you are not allowed to be self employed or start your own business.
if you were granted stamp 4 as long term residency, you would be free to start your own business. currently your employment rights are limited to the position of your working visa.

Non-EEA nationals who do not require business
permission
People who hold Stamp 4 on their certificate of registration do not need
special permission if they want to start a business and be self-employed in
Ireland. The exception to this is people who hold Stamp 4 but who are
resident on the basis of a working visa or authorisation.
it doesn't matter in what field the business is... you are not allowed to start business without business permission. you can however, be employed in your friend's business if it's in the exact same field as your working visa. you will have to renew your permission to remain in the state at some point and your proof of employment in the relevant field will be needed to do that.
