8 weeks stay on 6 month visa!!

Hi,
My mother-in-law applied for visitor visa and was granted with 6 month visitor visa. On her application form she wrote that she will be coming to uk for 8 weeks only. Now we have medical emergency in family and my query is whether she can stay for more than 8 weeks or does she needs to go back after 8 weeks??? If she stays for more then 8 weeks will she have trouble on future visa appplication?? Is there any provision where she can extend her stay for more then 8 weeks as she still have 6 months of valid visa??.
Any suggestion will be much appreciated.

She's allowed to stay 6 months even though she put 8 weeks. It could however be misconstrued to be deception so make sure she keeps all of the relevant paperwork pertaining to the emergency.
