Got ILR now, please guide the way to British Nationality.

Hello all,

I recently got my ILR on the 5yrs WP Basis.

I have been told I can apply for BRITISH nationality after staying 1 yr on the ILR (conditionally not more than 90 days out of uk).

Can you please tell me what is the next thing to do in order to get the BN? Please guide all the steps.

As far as I understand, the following are the procedures:

1) After 1 year of ILR, apply using AN form via NCS or via post?
2) If application is succeed, the HO will send an invitation letter to attend the ceremony.
3) Contact the local office and attend the ceremony.

Does this means that when an application is succeed, they send you the British PASSPORT? or to get a British Passport you have to apply that in the passport office at victoria london only after the ceremony has been done?

Also please tell what documents would I need to send with the AN form?
1) My passport?
2) My LIFE IN THE UK TEST and maybe my driving licence which I used as my ID when I did the test?

Any other documents like bank statements or payslips or letters from my empoyee?

Please guide at your earliest, as your guidance would be very helpful to all other members .

The NCS or nationality Checking service is provided by local authorities (local councils).

For a nominal fee, they will ensure that your form is correctly completed, and they will copy your documents and return them to you. They will ensure that your application is validly submitted and that the unwaivable requirements for citizenship are met.

As a result of this check, you keep you original documents (e.g. passport, marriage certificates et al) as these were verified already through NCS.

Please have a look at the link I provided earlier. It gives you the form and guidance. This clear states what documents you MUST provide. you will probably find that the documents that you have been told you must supply are probably not required

Who told you that?

The link posted by f2k takes you to the guidance notes, which outlines the documents that must be supplied. The guidance notes can also be accessed directly here. The relevant part for this purpose starts on page 26.

Basically, the documents are to establish two things — your identity and the fact that you fulfil the residence requirements for naturalisation. You don't need to supply bank statements, 3 months of pay slips or a letter from your employment. Letters from employers may be helpful in establishing that you have met the residence requirements, but there are other ways — see the notes.

This means passport and LITUK test result is enough for AN application and you don't have to submit originals as NCS will take copies.

The only issue with AN application is in the wait times. "Up to 6 months" is just too much for some to handle.

Normally fee depands on Council to council. My local council charges 50 for each adult applicant and 20.00 for each child.
