HELP!!! HELP!! graduate seeking work permit

Post by kenny7399 » Wed Feb 01, 2006 4:25 pm

hi i graduated with a bsc in biotechnology at cardiff uni in july 2005 and looking for a proper job since. im from sri lanka. i initially came to do masters for 4 years, but decided to end at bachelors (3 years), hence i hav one year extra on my student visa(till oct 2006). my parents have moved to new zealand too, so if i dont get a work permit and proper job by oct 2006 ill be pretty much lost. all my relatives have also moved to new zealand..i don have a house in sri lanka.
so what are my options? my degree qualification is only average and i dont think ill fall under the highly skilled migrant indvidual program either. i got a 2.2 hons, but no relevant work experience.
is there an easy way to get a permit, who knows of any good websites? is there any way i can apply for benefit or wuteva? i came in sep 2002, so ive been in this country for nearly 4 years now. please provide me with ANY advice that will help me to stay in this country. i hav no place to go!

I don't want to worry you, kenny7399, but I am not sure that you do have until October 2006...
I'm not as well-versed in the Immigration Rules as others here, but it seems to me that if you're not longer a student, your student visa may not longer be valid, regardless of the date that appears on it.

well i dunno about that. but still no one will find out, i mean i have my student id ,my visa, and my university acceptance letter, all dated till oct 2006. so i dont think there will be a problem. after all the university only requests the student id from me(when i visit university buildings) and they check its expiry date.
but i cant study of course, becos i dont have the finances.

ive been studying in international schools from kindergarten and did london O levels and A levels back in sri lanka..and after all that and after i came here to study, now they are reluctant to offer work permits for international students..this is robbery. i spent £30,000 for tuition fees ALONE during my 3 year study..but still they only offer work permits for exceptionally skilled students. these are inconsistencies of the british higher education system. all they want is our money!
