Got both WP and HSMP - which one to use to apply for EC?

Post by Jeff Albright » Thu Feb 02, 2006 12:58 pm

Hi All,

Funny thing I got both HSMP approval and WP for 2 years!

Which one shall I use with my main application from overseas?!

Cheers!

Hi Jeff,

How did you get both at the same time. I heard that home office can not have two applications at the samt time. Did you get one after the other? was there an overlap when both these applications were sitting at homeoffice at same time.

Jeff, definitely HSMP ..... there is no contest! ..... HSMP gives you more flexibility and means that employers do not need to get a WP to employ you.

Thank you for your prompt responses!

Webhunter, I think my HSMP was approved a week earlier than WP because the WP was returned to my employer at some stage asking for more information (vacancy advertisements).

The HSMP application was with the Work Permits from 3rd Jan until 18th Jan. The WP was sent on 16th Jan, then returned on 23rd Jan, then sent back on 30th Jan and approved on 1st Feb.

Well, I am now getting my VAF ready!

Cheers

Jeff

Hold on whats going on here!! Aren't you having some passport issues at the moment? as mentioned here?

I also thought you said your prospective employer wasnt happy about you having HSMP and they were therefore applying for a work permit for you?

Yes, passport issues are being dealt with. That is a separate story.

First applied for HSMP but employer could not wait and applied for WP. By the time WP application is reached them, the HSMP was already approved. Yesterday WP got approved, as well.

You can have all the WP and HSMP approvals you want in the world, but it's not going to mean squat unless you're able to get leave to remain.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Well, that's not I was asking about, was I? Perhaps this statement would be better off told to the children at school, who do not know what obvious things mean.

What's this conversation got to do with children at school? What Dawie's trying to get at is if you don't have a passport to put your leave to remain in then you cant take advantage of the WP and HSMP you've just received.

Thanks bbdivo, but even more than that, what I'm trying to emphasise is that the process of getting approval for a work permit or HSMP is totally separate from the process of applying for leave to remain based on that work permit or HSMP application. Just because you have been approved for a work permit or the HSMP does NOT guarantee that you will receive leave to remain.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Ok but what was the initial question about?!

You know what, when making these statements, you make me look like a fool, really. Do I really look stupid enough not to be able to understand these simple things?!

It is not that I do not appreciate your replies, but the way you phrase them does not look always look friendly and helpful, don't you think?
It does not apply to me only, but to other people on this forum asking for help.

It is not good enough just to throw statements, if you want to help or advise people, suggest a possible solution to them or way out from the situation.

The question was about the EC and which of the two to use for the EC application.

John has answered to it shortly and straight to the point.

John, could you please lock this post or delete it fully? Thanks.
