How long before someone can I apply for a Visitor visa to UK

Quick question.

Have a relative that I sponsored to visit us - even though he was granted a 6 month visa, he could only come to the UK for 6 weeks.

He would like to return for a little longer sometime in the future, this time with family...100% genuine visitor - wanting to return back home after a full visit

How long before he can reapply? Is there a prescribed time within which he can / cannot apply.

He will have to satisfy the Entry Clearance Officer about his purpose of visit.
