Council Housing

Post by juliajules1979 » Tue Mar 23, 2010 12:47 pm

I am a british citizen and my husband is in the UK on a spousal visa. ILR application is due Feb 2011. I have put our names onto the council housing register.

Will it be ok to include a letter showing that we have registered, or will it appear that we are trying to use public funds?

I spoke to home office and they told me to ask the council. Neither knew the guidelines.

Could somebody please advise. Many thanks.

As a British citizen you are entitled to public funds and your application for council housing will have no effect on your spouses ILR

Thanks so much for your reply. Will it matter that an application letter has both our names on it?

Thanks so much for your advice. One more question. We claimed WTC (with myself as main applicant, husband as joint applicant). I was going to submit the docs as evidence of joint names, they show that we recieved payments of £4,000 in a year, legally of course! These payments will stop in April as we are now both earning over the threshold, so when i complete set M in Jan 2011 for ILR, I will tick No, that we dont recieve public funds. Will the fact that we have included a letter showing we claimed WTC, make them think we are lying when we tick No to recieving public funds?

Many, many thanks.
