ILR under legacy case to British Passport

I have been seeing lawyers endlessly about this subject but I just don’t seem to be getting a satisfying answer. I will try to keep this as short as I can, as I do not want to bore you with me. I have been living in the UK alone from 2000. I came here as asylum seekers. In 2003 my asylum application was refused. In 2006 my appeal application was refused as well.

This year 2010 I have been granted indefinite leave to remain in the country outside the immigration rules. Initally I thought I could apply for naturilisation after 12 months of being granted ILR. However different lawyers are saying different things. Some are saying I should go ahead and apply next year, others are saying I have to wait 5 more year!



Now what is your say on this, as I lived in this country nearly 10 years now. Please feel free to say any suggestion. Thank you

if you applied inside UK rules you would have to wait 1 year for your naturalisation after ILR but outside you have to wait longer

Thanks mochyn for reply, I have applied inside UK on arrival immdiately in 2000, and since then I used to report on monthly basis even when my asylum case was refused in 2006, I guess this is reassuring for me, thanks again.

Congratulations on getting your ILR which is no doubt granted as you reported every month as per Home Office instructions. Had you disappeared into the black economy as so many asylum seekers do, you would have had to wait until you could apply under the 14 year rule for your ILR.
I am impressed by your attitude and I think you will be an asset to the UK.
