SRI LANKA - asylum seeking

Post by kenny7399 » Mon Feb 06, 2006 4:19 pm

Hi, i just finished a science degree at cardiff university(3 years) and my student visa expires oct 2006. im from sri lanka. i dont wanna go back to my country because it the war is starting again, the peace process back in sri lanka is on a knife edge and the war is gonna start. LTTE suicide bombers(black tigers) have arrived in colombo, reports say, and i dont wanna risk my life there. they can blast anytime anywhere, i dont wanna live my life in fear. im well-educated,studied in english-medium all my life and got a university degree as well. its just too dangerous back home. my country is in a state of ethnic conflict. what are my options here?

Interesting change in future plans?...

so what are my options? my degree qualification is only average and i dont think ill fall under the highly skilled migrant indvidual program either. i got a 2.2 hons, but no relevant work experience.
is there an easy way to get a permit, who knows of any good websites? is there any way i can apply for benefit or wuteva? i came in sep 2002, so ive been in this country for nearly 4 years now. please provide me with ANY advice that will help me to stay in this country. i hav no place to go!

Not to mention this:

well i dunno about that. but still no one will find out, i mean i have my student id ,my visa, and my university acceptance letter, all dated till oct 2006. so i dont think there will be a problem. after all the university only requests the student id from me(when i visit university buildings) and they check its expiry date.
but i cant study of course, becos i dont have the finances.

ive been studying in international schools from kindergarten and did london O levels and A levels back in sri lanka..and after all that and after i came here to study, now they are reluctant to offer work permits for international students..this is robbery. i spent £30,000 for tuition fees ALONE during my 3 year study..but still they only offer work permits for exceptionally skilled students. these are inconsistencies of the british higher education system. all they want is our money!

Mate, if you are so keen on staying on in the UK, there are 2 ways of doing it, either legally or illegally. You decide which path you want to take and then make it happen. There are many ways you can continue staying here legally, as a student, HSMP, work permit, spouse of UK/EU citizen etc. I would advise you to be honest at all times as lies will only come back to bite you one day...

of course i want to stay legally. thats exactly why i posted the message to ask you guys if u know anywhere i could apply. the other day i saw a sri lankan family on tv who said they were asylum seeking in uk. how come? i mean, if they were staying illegally they woudnt have been filmed. and the program wasnt even on asylum seeking..it was a cookery program..they just mentioned that they were asylum seekers here. thats all. i jus wondered how.

Based on my understanding of the current 'bio -tech' sector I expect you to find employment here readily but not necessarily easily nor directly. I would recommend you review the Science & Engineering Graduate Scheme (SEGS) - I would expand on the detail but as a recent graduate I'm sure you will enjoy researching this scheme (a search engine would be the best way forward). I daresay this would be more successful than IMHO what clearly seems to be an unfounded asylum claim.

good luck
