UK Decendant

Post by Valo.Ca » Mon Feb 13, 2006 9:48 pm

So my fiance and my self live in Canada, and both of her grandparents on both sides of her family are all UK decendants. I read some where that if you are a grandchild or child of a UK citizen, you are eligable for a UK citizenship. So my first question is, since her grandparents are UK citizens, is she eligble/can she get her UK citizenship without living in the UK for a period of time? and second question is, we are planning on gettin married in 2 or 3 years(when shez finished school), if she does get her UK citizenship, do i get my citizenship when we are married. We are planning on gettin married over in the UK. I know that for Canadians and US citizens, if you marrie some one from another country, they get their citizenship right away. We are thinking of moving to the UK for 6 months at first to get married and so she can finish her masters degree.

Based upon what you post I can't see how your fiancée qualifies for British Nationality. However it appears that she could be entitled to apply for an ancestry visa. If you click here you can read the guidance notes INF9 which will help considerably.

Only problem, it seems, is you! You will not be her dependent until after the marriage, or until the two of you have lived together (as married) for at least two years. So not sure on what basis you would get your visa in the immediate future.

hmmm..so if her an i got married b4 we moved and she did manage to get her citizenship, if i was her dependant, wouldnt i get a sopousal visa?? Also if i did go with her 2 the UK, is there the equivilant to trade schools there?? Here we have colleges that allow us to train for certain careers in skilled trades(plumbing, mechanics, carpentry, etc) for one year or more. If i did one of these schools or a continueing education course would i get a student visa.

Also how long does it take, on average to get a permanent UK citizenship??

Your whole plan seems to be based upon your fiancée getting British Citizenship at an early date, because of the fact that two of her grandparents were British. Based solely upon that information, she does not qualify for Citizenship at this time. But in which country were her parents born.

You have not commented upon the ancestry visa, which she does seem qualified to apply for. If she applies for that ... and the two of you are already married ... then you would be eligible to apply for a visa as her dependent.

Based upon those visas ... and current legislation .... it would be possible to apply for British Citizenship after five years.

There are, as you term them, trade schools, but I am not sure if it is possible to get a student visa to attend them.

Why the big plan to live in the UK?
