General Questions about visitor visa

Post by abbas_ali » Mon Apr 05, 2010 2:41 am

Hi Guys,

I am hoping to soon apply to sponsor my grandparents to come to the UK. I have been looking for answers to questions on the Uk Border Agency Website, but with so many rules, forms and procedures i have got a little confused!

1. I wanted to ask that if my grandparent's application is successful, i want them to come for the full 6 months, does their 'visa' being from that very date the application is successful or for example, do they have a period of 12 months in which to come and complete the 6month stay?

2. I have my bank statements, sponsorship letter, copy of my passport, proof of employment and earnings and proof of address evidence. Is it correct that the procedure is i simply send it over to them in Pakistan, then they take them over to the visa application centre with the visaapplication form?

3. Since i am going to be sponsoring them do they need any documents of their own other than passport photos? On the website it says a number of things for example letetr of employment to go back to, bank statements, letter of family back in their country and so on. However, since both are retired and i will be sponsoring the onyl thing i can think they need is aletter showing all the family they have to go back to in Pakistan.

4. This depends on the above point but if more documents are required, does anyone know of a site where the following requirements are translated into urdu?

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visit ... documents/

If anyone can help with even at least some of the points it would be a big help. Thanks!

If you are accomodating then you needto show proof you have the room, and the funds to support them which for six months for two would be a hefty sum!

If a visa is granted, the 6 months will start from date visa issued. If they want to spend the max 6 months, they better leave for UK asap after visa is issued. If they ariive a month after visa is issued it will mean they can only stay for 5 months.

If you apply in April 2010, but dont want the 6 months of the visa to begin till July 2010, ( 3 months max from time of application) if you make that clar in teh application, they will put the July date . however that means they will not be able to enter UK before July.

Once the 6 months are up, they have to wait another 6 months before reapplying again in the future

Yes it is correct. However i would advise that you download the application form and complete it here and then send it to your grandparents to sign and hand it. This is the form that you will need VAFIB.You candownlaod it from Home Office website

You need to show that they will return to Pakistan( ie family, home, land , pension are all good reasons to return home

The docs you have supplied from yourside are enough. There is no documents that will need translating . Hope this helps

Thanks. Both are retired but have a pension, land and family to go back to. A letter can be written about they have family back in Pakistan but as for the pension and land over there is it necessary to provide documentation for this or can it just be stated in a letter? The reason i ask is i don't know if the documentation to hand or might have to request it (and then get it translated) which will take time, especially since Pakistan is notoriously bureaucratic.

Also will the documents have to be translated into English?

Of course they would need to provide evidence, unless you want the application to be refused.

It would be nice to live in a world where you can take people's word as the truth, but I do not think we do live in a world where people do not lie for visas.
