PSW to Student>>How much fund do u need to show? Please

Post by bonde_rasing » Wed Apr 07, 2010 12:23 pm

hi guys.. i got a bachelor degree from universitya and applied psw. My PSW is finishing this 18th of may. while i was in psw, i was studying acca myself and did pass 9 papers with 5 remaining.then on february 2010, i joined kaplan college (located in inner london) as a full time student and paid all my fee.,my course will finish on feb 2011.
my problem is how much maintainance fee am i suppose to show cos the way its given in the guidance is very confusing.

Here is the extract from thehome office guidance relevant to my question. The word 'established presence' ..does it apply for me??
here is the link and the page no. is 15 in pdf file . http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... dance1.pdf
How much money must I show I have?
A student that does not have an established presence studying in the United Kingdom,
109. must show that he/she has money for his/her course fees plus:
Inner London• - £800 for living costs for each month of their course up, to a maximum of 9 months.
Outer London or anywhere else in the United Kingdom• - £600 for living costs for each month of their course, up to a maximum of 9 months.

A student that does have an established presence studying in the United Kingdom must
110. show that he/she has money for his/her course fees plus:
Inner London• - £800 for living costs for each month of their course, up to a maximum of 2 months.
Outer London or anywhere else in the United Kingdom • - £600 for living costs for each month of their course up to a maximum of 2 months

how much do i show then is it..
is it 800*9=7200
Is it 800*2= 1600
and how long should that amount be in my account for?
Please advise

my friend was in similar situation when applying for student visa extension... I dont know exact details of his visa application but based on the guidance from university... he was told that he must show 600*2 = 1200 (outside london)

He was extending his student visa and you are on psw visa so i am not too sure about your particular case.

Regards

PS. He applied 3 weeks ago and was told that amount must be in the bank for 28 days. Unless rules have changed, thats what i would recommend you to do

you were studying while on a psw visa.. thats not what psw visa is for so there is a complication in your case right there.

Now you want to switch to student visa. the best thing is to ask ukba for advice. Because my friend's case was relevant in that, maintenance fund requirement is pretty much same for those going for a new student visa or someone extending student visa.

1) if u'r an established student (i.e yr last visa was T4 'student visa' tht HO had done checks and u'r now renewing/ extending) =London/out London rate x 2mnths + 1 year tuition fee

2) if u'r applyg fresh or from other(e.g T1.PSW, T2 etc) to T4student =London / out London rate x 9months + 1yr tuition fee!

3) in addition, each dependant rate (if any), is added respectively,(i.e x applicable months in 1 and 2 above!)

hope this is clear enough!
