Need advice for a Fiance Visa Interview with the ECO

Post by R&L » Sat Feb 18, 2006 9:07 pm

I have been doing my research on this board and on the visa sites and I believe that I am prepared with all documents that I need to send off my visa application. I do have a few questions though. I am mainly worried about the interview with the ECO. I dont know what kind of questions to expect. I read a post on this board where someone said to be sure and know things such as my fiances favorite food, music and hobbies, what other kinds of questions should I be ready for? The other question I have is about proof of correspondence. I have been advised by people on this board to send in letters, emails, phone records, cards, and pictures among other things. We have cards from each other going back about 2 years I was wondering if I had to send in the actual cards or if I could make copies of the cards and send them along as proof.

Thanks in advance for any advice :P

In this topic you do not actually say in which country you will be making your application. So it helpful to anyone thinking you answering your questions to know that in another topic you posted "I am in the US and my other half is a UK citizen living in the UK.".

So your application will be made in the US. How are you applying? Your application will be submitted online? Having done that you need to follow the instructions you receive as regards the submission of evidence. And if you actually need an interview then no doubt you will ensure that the originals of the cards are with you, if not already submitted.

Potentially anything that might prove the the relationship between the two of you is real, rather than a marriage of convenience (or would be after the marriage).

However assuming you are a US citizen, and therefore not a visa national, I would not expect the questions to be too tough. If the two of you know each other well then you should not encounter a problem.

Hope it all goes well. When are you going to submit your application?

Yes I am a US citizen and I plan on sending my application in the mail with a folder full of documents, proof of contact and correspondence. I kind of didnt want to have to send in all of our cards because I wont get them back I know thats silly but I just wanted to be able to keep them. I will send the original cards if I must because I'll do what I have to do but if I can get away with it I would like to be able to send copies.

We are still gathering documentation and we need to contact the registration office to see what needs to be done in regards to that but we plan on sending out the application late March or early April.

Thanks for your advice You have been very helpful to me.

Any particular reason why you are not planning to utilise the online service to make the application?

I wanted to be able to send as much proof and documents along with my application. The consulate nearest to me is in New York and I am in Florida so I believe I will not be making it to NY for an in person interview.

Having submitted the application online you will get written instructions on-screen to forward documentation to a named address, quite possibly for you, New York. They will not actually process the application until that evidence arrives.

But submitting the application online does mean that the application is in the computer system already, rather than having to be keyed in on arrival of the papers.
