I need some help please! Any input welcome!

Post by WinterCame » Fri Apr 16, 2010 11:05 am

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I've called the Irish Embassy, called entemp.ie, the department of Justice etc. etc. e-mailed a few places, and no one's helping.

I want to live in Ireland as an author, and I am from a country that does not require visas (South Africa). Under Tier 1, writers, composers and artists do not require work-permits, but since I do not require a visa, I don't know how I am to apply as a writer? Do I just show up there with my passport and say, 'Well hey, I'm a person who can support myself off my writer salary"? I know I sound like a complete moron, and I'm so sorry, but no one seems to be able to explain to me what I'm supposed to do. I am very lost.

Thank you in advance!

Victor, thank you so much for that very useful link. I have been so frustrated because I only have internet on my (rather old) phone, which makes it very difficult to find the relevant information. I really appreciate the help, thank you so much :-).

Your South African free visa is only a tourist visa and it will be unwise to land in ireland and start looking for work as an author.

You have to contact the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform to enquire about coming here as an author.
