Irish Citizenship or permanent residence for EU Citizen.

Hi there,

A friend of mine, who is an EU citizen and currently resident in another EU country, wants to know what the procedure is to gain Irish citizenship or Irish permanent residence.

Permanent residence would be acquired after the EU citizen living and exercising their EU Treaty Rights in Ireland for 5 years or more.

One can apply for Citizenship, after 5 years of legal residence in Ireland and without any criminal convictions or any burden on social welfare. Note it can take 3 to 4 years for Citizenship application to be processed.
