Employment by US client in UK

Post by moving to uk » Mon May 03, 2010 7:04 pm

Hi all

I am in a strange situation. I am currently in New York working for my client which has an office in London. Since I am moving to London they are OK for me to continue working from their London office. The only catch is, they will continue paying my employer here and my employer does not have any offices outside of the US. My questions are:
1. Is it possible for my US-based employer to deposit my salary to my UK account? Will that count as employment in UK? Maybe not but just wanted to confirm.

2. Since I can open and trade from my own company can I ask my employer to open a UK branch, thru me, and then pay me ?

3. If neither of the above options work then what could be a possible solution for me to continue working for my NY client in the UK ?

All replies are appreciated. Thanks.

I think your only options are Tier 1 or Tier 2 work visas.

Or ur US company can open a UK office and transfer you there on ICT visa, but I doubt it's worth it for one employee or will happen overnight....

Sorry I forgot to mention that I already have Tier 1 visa, and about to move to the UK. So what options are available to me for me to retain my current client?

if you have a Tier 1 (General) visa, then you should be fine. Tier 1 allows you to become self employed anyway. just remember when you first look for jobs, the amount you earn can determine whether you qualify for an extention to your visa in 2 years time.
