Reentry permit and prolonged absence

Hi all,

I have a quick question relating reentry permit. Does prolonged absence from US (longer than 2 years) without entering the country causes any difficulties for GC holder with reentry permit? I was under the impression that it shouldn't cause any trouble but just to check.

It depends on many things. How many years? Why was the GC holder away for so long? Did they keep ties to the US? Did they file US taxes? Etc. Prolonged absence can result in abandonment, even with a reentry permit.
