Daughter born to British Father Thai Mother

Post by confusednotmuch » Sun May 09, 2010 5:34 pm

Hello

I found this site whilst looking for information for a friend of mine. I was wondering if people here could help me out which some information as i dont know where to look to pass the information on to my friend.

My friend is a British citizen he is married to a Thai woman and they have a daughter who was born in Thailand. Both his wife and daughter live in Thailand currently.

My friend wishes to know if he can register his daughter as a British citizen and what rights this will entitle her and him in respect to supporting her, if any at all.

Thanks for any help

Then the child was born in Thailand a British citizen by decent. No registration is required, simply apply for a passport.

And a consular birth certificate.

Hi JAJ,

Is that a requirement or a recommendation?

There is more detail on this webpage.

Reading that page you will see it is voluntary. However it is a very good idea for a British Citizen to have a British-style birth certificate. rather than rely upon just their overseas birth certificate.

In Bangkok they have a joint procedure, that is, applications can be made at the same time for the birth certificate and the British passport.
